Before You Start: What You Need
You’ll need these handy before opening the form:
- Valid passport — must be the one you’ll carry to the test center. No other ID is accepted for PTE Academic.
- Credit/debit card or net banking — fees vary by country; verify on the official portal (PTE Academic fees were last revised in early 2026).
- Stable internet — the session times out after 20 minutes of inactivity.
- Email address — use one you check daily. All confirmations go here.
Step 1: Create Your Pearson Account
Visit the official PTE Academic website and click “Sign Up”. Enter your full legal name exactly as on your passport. Middle names? Include them. Initials? Expand them. A mismatch here is the #1 reason for test-day rejection.
Pro tip: Use your passport’s name field as a reference. Copy it character by character.
Step 2: Fill Personal Details
This section asks for:
- Date of birth — format DD/MM/YYYY. Double-check the year.
- Nationality — select from the dropdown. If dual citizen, pick the one on your passport.
- Gender — optional, but be consistent with your ID.
- Contact number — include country code. Indian candidates: +91 followed by 10-digit number.
Common rejection reason: Date of birth entered in wrong format (MM/DD/YYYY instead of DD/MM/YYYY). The system may accept it, but your ID won’t match.
Step 3: Address and Communication Preferences
Provide your current residential address. This is used for score reports and official correspondence. If you’re applying to universities, ensure the address matches what you’ll put on your application.
- City, state, PIN code — for India, use a valid PIN. The system validates against a database.
- Country — select “India” if you’re taking the test there.
Check the box for “I agree to receive updates” only if you want PTE tips and reminders. It’s optional.
Step 4: Choose Your Test Type and Location
Select PTE Academic (not PTE Home or PTE Academic UKVI). Then:
- Country → City → Test center — pick one convenient for you. Some centers fill up fast; book 2–3 weeks ahead.
- Date and time — morning slots often have fewer delays. Afternoon slots are fine too.

Step 5: Score Reporting Preferences
You can send your scores to up to 5 institutions for free at the time of booking. Later, each additional report costs around $30 (verify current fee on portal).
- Search by institution name or code — add them now if you know them.
- You can skip this step and send scores later, but you’ll pay per report.
Pro tip: Even if you’re unsure, add your top 3 choices. It costs nothing now.
Step 6: Review and Pay
This is your final checkpoint. Scroll through every field:
- Name matches passport? ✅
- Date of birth correct? ✅
- Test center and date confirmed? ✅

Proceed to payment. You’ll see the total in your local currency. Complete the transaction and save the confirmation receipt. You’ll get an email within 5 minutes.
