HSK 6 Mock Test
HSK 6 is the highest HSK level — Chinese mastery. Required for Mandarin-medium PhD admissions at top-tier Chinese universities, senior diplomatic / corporate roles serving the India-China corridor, and entry-level Mandarin-interpreter pathways. Single most-credible Mandarin credential for non-native speakers.
Practise the full HSK 6 (汉语水平考试 六级) online. Our mock tests mirror the exact CTI specification — three timed sections, 101 items including the unique 1,000-character read + 400-character summary essay, and the 180/300 pass mark. Build the ~5,000-word vocabulary, chéngyǔ command, and dense-reading stamina you need to clear HSK 6 — the only HSK band where listening, reading, and writing all sit comfortably above CEFR C1.
HSK 6 exam format — three timed sections
HSK 6 introduces three step-changes vs HSK 5: (1) listening adds news / lecture-style monologues at faster pace, (2) reading adds an error-identification section that has no HSK 5 equivalent, and (3) writing replaces the two short essays with a single demanding summary task — read 1,000 characters, write 400.
听力 (Listening)
35 min · 3 parts
50 items across three parts — short conversations, longer dialogues, and extended monologues including news-style and lecture-style passages. Native Mandarin at standard-to-fast pace, one playback only. Scored 0–100.
阅读 (Reading)
50 min · 4 parts
50 items — error identification (find the grammatical mistake in the sentence), cloze, sentence-ordering, and dense long-passage reading comprehension (700+ characters, often essay-style or news-feature material). Scored 0–100.
书写 (Writing)
45 min · 1 parts
One task — read a 1,000-character source narrative for 10 minutes, then write a 400-character summary in 35 minutes (no reference to source allowed). Tests reading comprehension, summarisation, and written-Mandarin fluency in one combined task. AI-graded for accuracy, coherence, character formation, and grammatical range.
HSK 6 Scoring — 100 + 100 + 100
| Section | Max points | Sectional target |
|---|---|---|
| Listening (听力) | 100 | 60 |
| Reading (阅读) | 100 | 60 |
| Writing — summary essay (书写) | 100 | 60 |
| Overall total | 300 | 180 |
Officially the pass is 180/300 overall — no sectional minimum at HSK 6. In practice though, PhD admissions and senior-corporate recruiters flag any single section below 60/100. Plan for sectional balance, not just total.
What you'll master with our HSK 6 mock tests
Who needs HSK 6?
Mandarin-medium PhD applicants
Top-tier Chinese universities (Tsinghua, Peking, Fudan, Shanghai Jiao Tong) routinely require HSK 6 for PhD admission in Chinese-taught programmes.
Senior corporate / diplomatic roles
Country-manager and HQ-liaison roles at Chinese MNCs in India, plus senior posts at Indian diplomatic missions in China, expect HSK 6 as a credibility marker.
Mandarin interpretation careers
Trainee-interpreter pathways with Indian and Chinese government bodies (MEA China desk, Confucius Institute interpreter pool) typically open at HSK 6.
Mandarin lecturer / academic tracks
Indian university Chinese-Studies departments at JNU, Mumbai University, Visva-Bharati, and Vellore Institute of Technology view HSK 6 as the de-facto entry credential for non-native faculty.
Frequently asked — HSK 6
Is HSK 6 the same as native-speaker Mandarin?
No. HSK 6 maps roughly to CEFR upper-C1 — it is advanced, but not native. The new HSK 3.0 framework explicitly adds bands above HSK 6 (the HSK 7-8-9 stage) to capture true near-native and academic-research level Mandarin. HSK 6 sits at "professionally fluent in business, academic, and most cultural contexts" — which is more than enough for PhD admission, senior diplomatic work, and entry-level interpretation, but not the same as the Mandarin of a native university graduate.
How long does it take to go from HSK 5 to HSK 6?
12–18 months of consistent study (7–10 hours per week) plus serious immersion (Chinese news, Mandarin podcasts, ideally 2–3 months in-country). The vocabulary roughly doubles (2,500 → 5,000+), reading passages double in length, and the summary essay demands genuine written-Mandarin fluency rather than memorised patterns. Plan a 6-month mock-driven final stretch — there is no shortcut.
Does HSK 6 expire?
The certificate is a lifetime credential. For scholarship, visa, and academic-admission purposes most authorities expect HSK 6 within the last 2 years. PhD admissions and senior diplomatic recruitment are stricter — some councils ask for HSK 6 within 1 year. Plan a retake if your timing is tight.
What is the HSK 6 exam fee in India?
Approximately ₹4,500–₹5,500 in India for the paper-based HSK 6 at Confucius Institute centres. The Internet-based HSK iBT is slightly cheaper. Pricing changes periodically — confirm on chinesetest.cn or with the chosen Confucius Institute centre before registering.
Should I take HSKK 高级 along with HSK 6?
Yes — HSKK 高级 (advanced spoken exam) is the speaking counterpart to HSK 5 / 6 and is mandatory for almost every Mandarin-medium PhD application and for embassy-recruitment shortlists. It is a 26-minute recorded speaking exam — listen-and-repeat, prepared-talk, and answer-the-question tasks. Many candidates pair HSK 6 + HSKK 高级 in the same sitting because failing HSKK alone forces a complete language-credential rebuild.
Which HSK 6 section is hardest for Indian candidates?
By a wide margin: 书写 (writing). The summary essay demands 10-minute reading + 35-minute writing of 400 characters without source-reference. Even strong HSK 5 candidates who underprepared on writing routinely score 40–55/100 on first attempt. Listening tends to be the second-hardest because of the news / lecture register at HSK 6 pace. Reading is the most-coachable section.
Is the new HSK 3.0 (HSK 7-8-9) replacing HSK 6?
Hanban / CLEC is rolling out the HSK 3.0 framework which adds a new advanced stage above HSK 6 (the HSK 7-8-9 band) for near-native and research-grade Mandarin. HSK 6 itself continues to exist as the top of HSK Stage 2. Most exam centres in India and most CSC scholarship listings still reference the established HSK 2.0 structure described on this page. We will update guidance when the rollout reaches India's Confucius Institute network.
