TOPIK Levels Explained — Score Bands & CEFR

TOPIK awards a Level based on your raw marks. Higher levels unlock scholarships, visas, and professional roles in Korea.

ExamLevelScore bandCEFR
TOPIK ILevel 180 – 139A1
TOPIK ILevel 2140 – 200A2
TOPIK IILevel 3120 – 149B1
TOPIK IILevel 4150 – 189B2
TOPIK IILevel 5190 – 229C1
TOPIK IILevel 6230 – 300C2

Score bands are approximate and may be revised by NIIED. TOPIK II is awarded a level only if your raw marks cross the relevant threshold (and you have not been disqualified for academic integrity).

How TOPIK is scored

TOPIK is graded out of total raw marks, not banded sub-skills. Your total marks determine which Level (등급) is printed on your certificate.

  • TOPIK I — 200 points max (Listening 100 + Reading 100). No writing section.
  • TOPIK II — 300 points max (Listening 100 + Reading 100 + Writing 100).
  • You must reach the minimum total for a level. There is no per-skill pass requirement.
  • Certificates are valid for 2 years from the result date.

Where TOPIK is held in India

TOPIK is administered overseas by the Korean Cultural Centre India (KCC India) under NIIED. Sittings happen 2–3 times a year (typically April, July/August, and October).

  • Delhi — Korean Cultural Centre India (main centre)
  • Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore — King Sejong Institute partner venues for some sittings
  • Online registration via the official TOPIK portal; pay in INR or via bank transfer.
  • Seat counts in India are limited — register the day registration opens.

Common questions

Is LanguageTest.in affiliated with NIIED or KCC India?

No. We are an independent exam preparation platform. LanguageTest.in is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially recognised by NIIED (National Institute for International Education), Korean Cultural Centre India, or any Korean government body.

What does a TOPIK mock test include?

TOPIK I mocks cover Listening (듣기) and Reading (읽기). TOPIK II mocks add Writing (쓰기) — graded by AI for vocabulary, structure, and grammar. Each mock is timed exactly like the real exam.

Which TOPIK level do I need for a Korean visa or scholarship?

EPS-TOPIK Level 2 is required for the EPS (Employment Permit System) industrial-worker visa. GKS (Global Korea Scholarship) typically requires TOPIK Level 3+. Most Korean university admissions ask for Level 4. Skilled-worker E-7 visa applications gain extra points at Level 3 and above.

Can I try before I pay?

Yes. Our free demo gives you a 15-minute mini-mock with instant AI feedback — no credit card required. Full-length mocks are available as single purchases or money-saving packs.

How often is TOPIK held in India?

TOPIK is typically held 2–3 times a year in India — usually April, July/August, and October. Seat counts are limited so registration fills within days of opening.

Is the regular TOPIK the same as EPS-TOPIK?

No. They are two completely different exams. Regular TOPIK is a 6-level academic/general proficiency test. EPS-TOPIK is a separate entry exam administered through the EPS programme for industrial workers heading to Korean factories — see our TOPIK vs EPS-TOPIK guide.
