The medical-German exam for the German Approbation
Conducted by the Landesärztekammer of each Bundesland. Tests whether a foreign-trained doctor can work safely in clinical German.
- Conducting body: Landesärztekammer (State Medical Chamber) of the Bundesland where you apply.
- Purpose: Language clearance for the Berufserlaubnis / Approbation — medical German at roughly C1.
- Prerequisite: A general German B2 certificate (telc / Goethe / TestDaF) is normally required to apply.
- Format: Oral, ~60 minutes, three parts.
- Part 1 — Anamnese: ~20-min patient history with a simulated patient.
- Part 2 — Übergabe: presenting / handing the case to a colleague (Arzt-Arzt).
- Part 3 — Patientenbrief: a structured written medical report.
- Pass mark & fee: set per chamber — confirm locally before booking.
