JLPT N3 Mock Test

N3 is the practical floor for nursing care (介護) and basic professional Japanese. While N4 is the legal SSW minimum, elderly-care providers in Japan consistently prefer N3 candidates because patient communication, safety briefings, and shift-handover phrases sit above N4 ability.

Practise the full JLPT N3 (日本語能力試験 N3) online. Our mock tests mirror the JEES exam format with summary-comprehension listening (new at this level), longer reading passages, and the keigo groundwork that every Japanese workplace assumes. AI scoring shows you exactly which sub-section drags your total.

JLPT N3 exam format — bridge to professional Japanese

N3 introduces summary-comprehension listening and meaningfully longer reading passages. The 70-minute grammar + reading block is the longest in the JLPT system at this stage — pacing is critical.

30 min · 5 parts

Kanji reading, orthography, contextually-defined expressions, paraphrases, and usage. ~3,700-word vocabulary covering daily and basic professional life.

言語知識 + 読解 (Grammar + Reading)

Sentence-pattern grammar, sentence composition, short, medium and long passages (~550 chars), plus comparative and information-retrieval texts.

聴解 (Listening)

Who needs JLPT N3?

Caregiving (介護) SSW candidates

Nursing care under the SSW visa officially requires N4, but elderly care employers strongly prefer N3 — it sharply increases your hiring chances.

Entry-level office workers in Japan

N3 is the bare minimum for receptionist, hospitality desk, retail, and entry-level back-office roles where some written Japanese is expected.

Japanese-language scholarship hopefuls

MEXT and several private Japanese scholarship programmes ask for N3 as the threshold for non-language-track applicants.

N2 / N1 preppers — building the base

N3 is the critical bridge: if your N3 is shaky, jumping to N2 doubles your study burden. Most candidates pass N2 only after solid N3.

Frequently asked — JLPT N3

Is JLPT N3 required for the caregiving (介護) SSW visa?

Officially, the caregiving SSW track accepts N4 plus the Nursing Care Japanese Evaluation Test. However, in practice, Japanese elderly-care employers heavily prefer N3 because patient communication, dementia-care prompts, and dietary handover need a richer vocabulary than N4 provides. Many Indian candidates clear N4 first, get the visa, then sit N3 within their first year in Japan.

How long does it take to go from N4 to N3?

Most learners need 6–9 months of consistent study (about 1.5 hours daily). The kanji count roughly doubles (~300 to ~650), grammar abstraction increases sharply, and listening enters near-natural speed. Listening is the most common failure section — practise daily with our mock listening sets.

Does JLPT N3 expire?

No. JLPT N3 has lifetime validity. For visa or employment purposes, however, the certificate should typically be from within the last 5–10 years.

What is the JLPT N3 exam fee in India?

Around ₹2,300 in India. Fees are slightly higher than N5/N4 and registered through the Japan Foundation New Delhi or partner test centres. Always check the official JLPT India portal for the live fee before each registration window.

JLPT N3 vs BJT — which is better for IT jobs in Japan?

For pure IT roles, recruiters typically look at N2 minimum on the JLPT side, with BJT J2/J3 as a strong business-Japanese signal. N3 is a stepping stone — it shows seriousness but rarely unlocks IT job offers on its own. If your goal is software engineering in Japan, plan your timeline as N3 → N2 → optional BJT.
