NT2 and inburgering fees — what you actually pay DUO
Dutch state exams are priced per component, which is what makes retakes relatively affordable but a scattergun approach expensive. Here is what each route costs.
What each route costs
- Staatsexamen NT2 (complete) — 200 euro, that is 50 euro each for Lezen, Luisteren, Schrijven and Spreken. Same price for Programma I and II.
- A single component or retake — 50 euro. Because components pass independently, you only ever repay for the one you missed.
- Inburgering under Wi2021 — 250 euro: four language exams at 50 euro plus KNM at 50 euro.
- Inburgering under the 2013 law — 290 euro, which adds ONA at 40 euro.
Who pays nothing
Asielstatushouders under the Wet inburgering 2021 pay nothing: the municipality funds both the course and the first two attempts per component. Everyone else pays themselves or borrows from DUO. Registration is through Mijn DUO with DigiD, by iDEAL or on invoice if you book at least three weeks ahead.
Where a mock pays for itself
A single failed component costs 50 euro plus the wait for a new sitting. The value of practising is not the practice itself but knowing which component is not ready before you pay to find out.
