Quebec's Programme régulier des travailleurs qualifiés (PRTQ) uses a separate immigration grid from federal Express Entry. French scores work very differently here — multiple exams accepted, and even moderate French opens doors that federal Express Entry doesn't.

PRTQ selection grid — French points

Quebec's selection grid awards up to 22 points for French language proficiency (16 for the principal applicant + 6 for spouse). The grid splits French into oral comprehension / oral production / written comprehension / written production — each scored in points. Higher CLB / B2-or-higher scores earn the maximum points per ability.

Federal Express Entry vs Quebec PRTQ — strategic note

If you're targeting Quebec specifically, DELF B2 alone can be enough — you don't need the more expensive TEF Canada or TCF Canada attempt. If you're keeping options open across federal + Quebec, take TEF Canada (accepted by both) so you don't need to sit two separate exams.

Is French mandatory for Quebec PRTQ?

Not strictly — you can submit a profile without French and rely on other selection-grid points. But French is by far the highest-leverage ability you can demonstrate; a profile without French rarely succeeds in PRTQ.

Does Quebec accept DELF B2?

Yes. Quebec's selection grid explicitly accepts DELF B2, DALF C1, DALF C2 alongside TEF Canada and TCF Canada. This is the single biggest difference vs federal Express Entry, which only accepts TEF Canada / TCF Canada.

Should I take TEF Canada or DELF B2 for Quebec?

If you ALSO want federal Express Entry as a backup pathway: take TEF Canada (works for both). If you're Quebec-only: DELF B2 is cheaper, more widely available in India, and equivalent in PRTQ scoring terms.
