Age Limits for DELE B1
The DELE B1 has no upper age limit. Anyone above a certain minimum age can register. The standard DELE B1 is for candidates aged 16 and older. If you are 15 or younger, you must register for the DELE Escolar B1 version, which is tailored for school-age learners.
- General DELE B1: For candidates 16+.
- DELE Escolar B1: For candidates 11–15 years old. (Note: The Escolar version is only offered on specific exam dates; verify availability on the official portal.)
- No maximum age—candidates in their 60s and 70s take the DELE B1 regularly.
Nationality and Residency Rules
DELE B1 is open to all nationalities. There are no citizenship or residency requirements. You do not need to be a Spanish citizen or live in a Spanish-speaking country.
- Indian nationals can register at any Instituto Cervantes examination centre in India (New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, etc.) or abroad.
- Non-Spanish speakers from any country are welcome.
- The exam is also taken by heritage speakers and native Spanish speakers who need a formal certification for work or study.
Special Category Rules
Candidates with Disabilities
The Instituto Cervantes provides accommodations for candidates with disabilities, including:
- Extra time (up to 50% more).
- Adapted exam formats (large print, braille, audio).
- Sign language interpreters for oral tasks (where available).
