DELE A2 Eligibility 2026 — Age, Education, Nationality

The DELE A2 (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera Nivel A2) is designed for candidates who can understand frequently used expressions and communicate in simple, routine tasks. Unlike many academic exams, the DELE A2 has minimal formal barriers. Here is exactly what you need to qualify.

General Eligibility: No Formal Prerequisites

There are no mandatory education or training requirements to register for the DELE A2. You do not need:

• A school diploma or degree
• Proof of Spanish classes or hours of study
• A previous DELE certificate

Anyone who believes they have reached an A2 level can register directly. The Instituto Cervantes does not require a specific course completion.

Age Requirements

The DELE A2 is open to all ages, but there is a recommended minimum:

• General public: No minimum age. However, the exam content assumes life experience typical of a teenager or adult. Candidates under 16 are strongly advised to assess their readiness.
• Recommended age: 16 years and older. Younger candidates may take the exam, but parents should ensure the child can handle the reading, writing, listening, and speaking tasks.

Nationality and Residency

DELE A2 is open to all nationalities. There are no citizenship or residency restrictions. You can register from any country where an exam center is available.

• Indian candidates: Fully eligible. You can take the DELE A2 at Instituto Cervantes New Delhi or other authorized centers in India.
• Global candidates: No visa or local address required. You may choose any center worldwide.

Special Category Rules

Minors (under 18)

• Candidates under 18 must provide signed parental or guardian consent.
• Some centers may require a parent to accompany the minor during registration.
• The exam content and difficulty are identical to the adult version.

Candidates with Disabilities

• The Instituto Cervantes provides accommodations for candidates with disabilities (e.g., extra time, large print, sign language interpreters).
• You must request accommodations at least 30 days before the exam date. Supporting medical documentation is required.
• There is no additional fee for reasonable accommodations, but verify with your specific center — policies may vary slightly.

SIELE Holders

• If you have taken the SIELE (Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua Española) and scored at least B1 in all four skills, you may be exempt from the DELE A2 exam for certain purposes (e.g., Spanish nationality).
• SIELE scores are valid for five years. DELE certificates are valid indefinitely.

Registration Process

2. 2Check dates: DELE exams are held on specific dates each year — typically in May, July, September, and November. Verify exact dates on the official portal.
3. 3Register online or in person: Fill out the registration form, upload a scanned ID (passport or national ID), and pay the fee.
4. 4Consent for minors: If under 18, upload a signed parental consent form.
5. 5Receive confirmation: You will get a registration confirmation and exam instructions via email.
