Age Requirements
- Minimum age: 16 years old on the exam date. No exceptions.
- No upper age limit: Anyone 16+ can take the DELE A1.
- Youth candidates: If you are 11–15, you must take the DELE A1 Escolar (school version) instead. The regular DELE A1 is not open to minors under 16.
Education Prerequisites
- None. The DELE A1 has zero formal education requirements. You do not need a high school diploma, college degree, or any certificate to register.
- The exam only tests basic Spanish communication: introductions, simple descriptions, and everyday phrases.
Nationality & Residency
- Open to all nationalities. The DELE A1 is a global credential. Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and other international candidates are welcome.
- No residency requirement. You can take the exam in any country with a DELE testing center. You do not need to be a resident of that country.
Special Category Rules
- Disabled candidates: The Instituto Cervantes provides accommodations (extra time, assistive tech, etc.). You must request these at registration and provide supporting medical documentation. Deadlines vary by center — check at least 4 weeks before the exam.
- Repeat takers: You may retake the DELE A1 as many times as you want. There is no limit. However, each attempt requires a new registration and fee.
