Frequently asked — Goethe A2

What is the difference between Goethe A1 and A2?

A1 tests the most basic communication — greetings, numbers, simple personal information. A2 adds everyday scenarios like shopping, travel, and health, with slightly more complex reading texts and longer listening passages.

What is the A2 pass mark?

You need 60% in each individual module. Failing one module means the whole exam is not passed, regardless of your average. Some centres allow you to retake individual modules within a validity period.

How long does it take to prepare for A2 from scratch?

With consistent study (1–2 hours daily), most learners reach A2 in 3–6 months from zero. If you already have A1, 6–10 weeks of focused preparation is usually sufficient.

Can I prepare for A2 without a teacher?

Absolutely. Our mock tests give you timed practice and AI feedback on writing and speaking, which covers the two hardest skills to self-assess. Combine these with a good A2 coursebook for grammar and vocabulary.
