Understanding OET fees before you book prevents unpleasant surprises. The exam is not cheap — and rescheduling or cancelling at the last minute can cost you significantly. This guide breaks down every fee you may encounter, from initial registration to remarking.
Full Test Fee
The standard OET fee for all four sub-tests is AUD 587 (approximately USD 587 or INR 49,000, depending on exchange rates). This fee is the same regardless of your chosen delivery format:
- OET on Computer (at a Prometric centre): AUD 587
- OET on Paper: AUD 587
- OET@Home: AUD 587
An additional AUD 7 online booking fee applies and is non-refundable in all cases.
Individual Sub-Test Fees
If you need to retake only one or two sub-tests (rather than the full exam), reduced fees apply:
- One sub-test: AUD 200.50
- Two sub-tests: AUD 339
- Three sub-tests: AUD 477.50
- Four sub-tests (full test): AUD 587
Individual sub-test retakes are available for OET on Paper only and are subject to availability. You must have completed a full OET test (all four sub-tests) before you can book individual retakes. Always check whether your recognising organisation accepts results from separate sittings before booking individual sub-tests.

Rescheduling Fees
If you need to change your test date, rescheduling fees depend on how much notice you give:
- More than 7 days before test date: AUD 120
- Within 7 days of test date: AUD 200
- On the test day or after: No rescheduling possible — treated as a cancellation
You can reschedule through your OET online account. The new date must be within the same test window, subject to availability.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
Paper-Based Tests
- Cancelled more than 7 days before test: Partial refund (AUD 380–460 depending on timing)
- Cancelled less than 7 days before test: No refund
Computer-Based Tests
- Cancelled more than 2 days before test: Partial refund
- Cancelled less than 2 days before test: No refund
Refund Timeline
Refunds are processed to your original payment method within 7 to 10 business days after cancellation. The AUD 7 booking fee is never refunded.
Remarking Fee
If you believe your Writing or Speaking score is incorrect, you can request a remark (re-evaluation). The fee is approximately AUD 120 per sub-test. Remarks can result in a score increase, decrease, or no change. If your score increases, the remarking fee is refunded.
Total Cost Scenarios
Best Case: Pass on First Attempt
AUD 587 + AUD 7 booking = AUD 594 total (approximately INR 49,500).
Typical Case: One Full Retake
Two full sittings = AUD 1,174 + AUD 14 = AUD 1,188 total.
Targeted Retake: One Sub-Test Only
Full test + one sub-test retake = AUD 587 + AUD 200.50 + AUD 14 = AUD 801.50 total. This saves approximately AUD 387 compared to a second full sitting.

Tips to Avoid Losing Money
- Do not book until you are ready. Take a diagnostic mock test first. If you are not consistently scoring near Grade B, additional preparation time is cheaper than a retake.
- Book computer-based for maximum flexibility. Rescheduling is easier and the cancellation window is shorter but more lenient.
- Set calendar reminders for rescheduling and cancellation deadlines. Missing the 7-day window means losing your entire fee.
- Consider score combining before booking a full retake. If your regulator allows combining from two sittings, and you scored Grade B in three sub-tests, a single sub-test retake (AUD 200.50) is significantly cheaper than a full resit (AUD 587).
- Request a remark if you missed Grade B by 10 points or less in Writing or Speaking. At AUD 120, a remark is much cheaper than a retake — and if your score increases, you get the fee back.
