DELE C2 Eligibility 2026 — Age, Education, Nationality

The DELE C2 exam is the highest level of Spanish proficiency certification offered by the Instituto Cervantes. Unlike lower levels, C2 demands near-native command of the language, and the eligibility rules reflect that focus on skill rather than paperwork.

Education Prerequisites

There are no formal education prerequisites for DELE C2. You do not need a degree, diploma, or any specific schooling to register. The exam is open to anyone who can demonstrate C2-level Spanish.

• No minimum qualification required.
• No prior DELE level needed — you can jump straight to C2.
• The only prerequisite is linguistic competence.

That said, the exam is designed for candidates who can understand virtually everything heard or read, summarize information from different sources, and express themselves spontaneously with precision.

Age Limits

DELE C2 has a minimum age of 16 years on the day of the exam. There is no upper age limit.

• Candidates under 16 cannot register for C2.
• For younger learners, DELE offers specific levels: A1 Escolar, A2/B1 Escolar.
• No exceptions or waivers are granted for the age rule.

If you are 16 or older, you are eligible regardless of when you started learning Spanish.

Nationality Rules

DELE C2 is a universal exam — there are no nationality restrictions. Candidates from any country can register and take the exam at any authorized DELE center worldwide.

• No requirement to be a native Spanish speaker.
• No requirement to hold a passport from a Spanish-speaking country.
• The certificate is recognized globally and does not differentiate by nationality.

Special Category Rules

Some candidates may qualify for accommodations or special conditions. These are handled on a case-by-case basis.

• Disability accommodations: Candidates with visual, hearing, motor, or learning disabilities can request adjustments. You must submit documentation at least 30 days before the exam.
• Pregnant candidates: No blanket rule, but centers may allow rescheduling with a medical certificate.
• Candidates with chronic illnesses: Same as above — contact your exam center early.

All requests are evaluated by the Instituto Cervantes. There is no guarantee of approval, but reasonable accommodations are generally granted.

Registration Requirements

To register for DELE C2, you need:

• A valid passport or national ID (expiry date must be after the exam date).
• A completed registration form (online or at the exam center).
• Payment of the exam fee (verify on the official portal — DELE C2 fees were last revised in early 2026).

You cannot register without a valid identity document. Driving licenses, student IDs, and photocopies are not accepted.

Exam Format & Scoring

DELE C2 consists of three tests:

1. 1Test 1: Reading and Listening Comprehension (105 minutes)
2. 2Test 2: Integrated Skills – Reading and Listening + Writing (150 minutes)
3. 3Test 3: Integrated Skills – Reading and Listening + Speaking (20 minutes preparation + 20 minutes exam)

To pass, you must score at least 60% in each of the two groups (Group 1: Tests 1 & 2; Group 2: Test 3). There is no overall aggregate — failing one group means failing the entire exam.

Validity & Recognition

The DELE C2 certificate is valid for life. It does not expire and does not need renewal. It is recognized by:
