DELF Scolaire — French Exam for Indian School Students

DELF Scolaire uses topics relevant to school-age students (school life, youth culture, relationships with friends and family) instead of adult workplace or social themes. Both versions test the same four skills at the same CEFR level, and both produce a certificate that is officially equivalent and equally recognised. On your certificate, it will specify 'DELF Scolaire' rather than standard DELF.

Yes. Many Indian schools that offer French as a second language (Class 6 onwards) coordinate group DELF Scolaire registrations with their nearest Alliance Française. Ask your French teacher or school coordinator. Individual students can also register directly through Alliance Française without going through their school.

DELF Scolaire is designed for secondary school students aged 12–17. DELF Prim is for primary school children (ages 8–12). DELF Junior is for slightly older students (16–20). Once you are 18+, you take standard DELF. Students as young as 12 can sit DELF A1 Scolaire if they have the required language ability — there is no minimum age requirement beyond being in the target age range.

Yes. Most Indian universities and colleges do not require DELF for admission, but having a DELF Scolaire certificate demonstrates initiative and a genuine language achievement. For programmes with a French component (French departments, European studies, international relations), DELF B1 or B2 is a strong differentiator. It also opens the door to Erasmus+ exchange opportunities and French government scholarships.

The DELF Scolaire certificate itself is not accepted for federal Express Entry (you need TEF Canada or TCF Canada). However, achieving DELF B2 Scolaire at school age means you enter adult life with near-professional French skills. Reaching B2 in school is an enormous head-start — converting to TEF Canada B2 (CLB 9+) later requires far less effort, making your future Canada immigration significantly easier.
