Preparing for the DELF A2 exam? You need more than just answers — you need to understand how to arrive at them. Below are 10 sample questions (2–3 per section) with step-by-step solutions that mirror the reasoning you should apply on test day.
Each question is based on the official DELF A2 format: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The solutions show the thinking — not just the final answer.
Listening Comprehension (Compréhension de l’oral)
Question 1: Short announcement
You hear: "Le train pour Lyon partira à 14h30, voie 4. Attention, les voyageurs doivent se présenter au quai 15 minutes avant le départ."
What time should passengers be at the platform?
Solution: The announcement says 15 minutes avant le départ (15 minutes before departure). Departure is at 14:30, so subtract 15 minutes → 14:15. Key: Listen for time expressions like avant (before) and après (after).
Question 2: Conversation in a shop
You hear: "Bonjour, je cherche un cadeau pour ma sœur. Elle aime la musique. — Nous avons des CD à 12 euros, ou des écouteurs sans fil à 25 euros."
What is the cheapest gift option mentioned?
Solution: The CD costs 12 euros, the headphones 25 euros. The cheapest is the CD. Tip: Numbers are often tested — write them down quickly.

Reading Comprehension (Compréhension des écrits)
Question 3: Email about a party
Read: "Salut Marc, j’organise une fête samedi prochain chez moi. Apporte des boissons si tu veux. Commence à 20h. Réponds vite !"
What does the email ask Marc to do?
Solution: The email invites Marc to a party and asks him to réponds vite (reply quickly). It also suggests bringing drinks (apporte des boissons si tu veux), but the main request is to respond. Focus on the imperative verb.
Question 4: Advertisement
Read: "Appartement à louer, 2 pièces, 45 m², centre-ville. 600 € par mois, charges comprises. Disponible à partir du 1er mars. Contactez Sophie au 06 12 34 56 78."
What is included in the rent?
Solution: The ad says 600 € par mois, charges comprises (utilities included). So the rent covers utilities. Ignore irrelevant details like size or availability.
Writing Production (Production écrite)
Question 5: Write a postcard
Task: Write 40–60 words to a friend describing your weekend plans.
Sample answer: Cher Thomas, ce week-end je vais à la plage avec ma famille. Nous allons nager et manger des glaces. Le temps est beau. J’espère que tu passes un bon week-end aussi. Amitiés, Camille.
Solution: Use simple present or near future (je vais). Include: greeting, activity, closing. Keep sentences short. Avoid complex tenses.
Question 6: Fill a form
Task: Complete a registration form with name, nationality, date of birth, and reason for learning French.
Sample: Nom: Kumar, Nationalité: Indienne, Date de naissance: 15/04/1998, Raison: Pour étudier en France.
Solution: Use Nationalité with feminine form (Indienne if female, Indien if male). Date format: day/month/year.

Task: The examiner asks: "Parlez-moi de votre famille."
Sample response: Dans ma famille, nous sommes quatre : mon père, ma mère, ma sœur et moi. Mon père est ingénieur. Ma mère est professeur. Ma sœur étudie à l’université.
Solution: Use être (to be) for descriptions. Mention number of members, professions, and maybe ages. Keep it simple — 3–4 sentences.
Question 8: Information exchange
Task: You want to borrow a book from a friend. Ask politely.
Sample: Bonjour, est-ce que je peux emprunter ton livre de français pour une semaine ? Je te le rendrai lundi prochain. Merci beaucoup.
Solution: Use est-ce que or inversion for questions. Include polite phrases (s’il te plaît, merci). Specify duration.
Question 9: Role-play
Task: At a restaurant, order a meal and ask for the bill.
Sample: Bonjour, je voudrais un steak-frites et un verre d’eau, s’il vous plaît. — Voilà. — Merci. L’addition, s’il vous plaît.
Solution: Use je voudrais (I would like) for ordering. L’addition, s’il vous plaît for the bill. Practice common phrases.
Question 10: Express opinion
Task: Tell the examiner what you like to do in your free time and why.
