Frequently asked — Cambridge C1 Advanced

Cambridge C1 vs IELTS — which is better for UK university?

Cambridge C1 Advanced is increasingly preferred by UK universities because it has lifetime validity (IELTS expires in 2 years) and tests a deeper range of skills — including Use of English and a paired speaking format. Many Russell Group universities accept both, but C1 is seen as a stronger, more enduring proof of mastery. Always check the specific course page on the university website.

Is Cambridge C1 accepted as a SELT for UK visas?

Yes. C1 Advanced is on the UK Visas & Immigration approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) list for Student visa, Skilled Worker visa, and many family/spouse visa routes — provided you take it at an approved IELTS SELT Consortium test centre with the SELT booking.

What is the Cambridge C1 exam fee in India?

Fees typically range ₹13,000–₹14,500 in India depending on the test centre (British Council, Cambridge-authorised centres in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune). Computer-based and paper-based options are available; fees may differ slightly.

Does the Cambridge C1 certificate expire?

No. Unlike IELTS, the Cambridge C1 Advanced certificate has lifetime validity. Once you pass, you have a permanent record of your C1-level English — which is a major reason it is preferred by candidates building long-term international careers.

How long should I prepare for Cambridge C1 if my English is already strong?

Strong B2-level candidates (IELTS 6.5–7.0 equivalent) typically need 2–4 months of focused preparation to comfortably target Grade B (193+). The Use of English paper is the biggest stumbling block for self-taught Indian candidates — our mock tests focus heavily on this section.
