Why do paper-based fees vary so much by centre?
Indian Confucius Institute centres operate under partnership agreements with Hanban / CLEC and have some latitude to set local administration fees on top of the base CLEC fee. Mumbai University tends to charge at the upper end because of high candidate volume and infrastructure cost; KRMU Gurugram and JNU sit mid-range; HSK iBT (no physical centre overhead) is the cheapest option.
Can I pay HSK fees in INR?
On chinesetest.cn, payment is processed in RMB but most Indian Visa / Mastercard cards work directly (your bank converts at the prevailing rate plus typically a 3.5% international-transaction fee). UnionPay and WeChat Pay also work if you have those set up. Some Confucius Institute centres in India also accept INR cash / UPI for paper-based registration — confirm with the centre.
Are HSK retake fees the same as first-attempt fees?
Yes. There is no retake discount — every sitting is treated as a fresh registration at the full fee. This makes mock-driven preparation high-ROI: ₹499 per mock vs ₹3,500–5,500 per HSK 5 / 6 retake. Most Indian candidates need 1–2 attempts at HSK 5 and 2–3 attempts at HSK 6 — plan the budget for the second attempt as insurance.
Will my employer reimburse HSK fees?
