What is TEF Canada and how is it different from TEF?+

TEF Canada is the CCI Paris Île-de-France French test specifically configured for IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) immigration purposes. The standard TEF is the same exam family but for France-bound applications. TEF Canada scores are mapped to NCLC levels (1-10) — the Canadian Language Benchmarks scale.

Why does TEF Canada matter for Express Entry?+

French-speaking applicants in Canada's Express Entry pool get up to +50 CRS bonus points (+25 for NCLC 5-6 in all four skills, +50 for NCLC 7+ in all four). With the new French-language category-based draws, fluent French speakers have a meaningfully higher chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply, often at lower English scores.

What are the four modules?+

Compréhension écrite (reading, 60 min), Compréhension orale (listening, 40 min), Expression écrite (writing, 60 min) and Expression orale (speaking, 15 min). For Express Entry all four are mandatory; for citizenship typically only listening + speaking are required.

How is TEF Canada scored?+

Each module is scored on a points scale that maps to NCLC levels 1-10. The score report shows your CEFR equivalent (A1-C2) and NCLC level for each skill — IRCC reads the NCLC level when awarding CRS points.

How long is a TEF Canada score valid?+

2 years from test date for IRCC immigration applications. After 2 years you must retake.

Where can I take TEF Canada in India?+

Alliance Française centres in major Indian cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chandigarh and others. Most centres run TEF Canada at least quarterly; some monthly. Check directly with your local Alliance Française for the next sitting.
