Where HSK Is Administered
HSK is administered at Confucius Institutes, Chinese Cultural Centres, and designated test centres worldwide. There are over 1,000 HSK test centres in more than 60 countries. In some countries, the exam is also available as a computer-based test (CBT) online under remote proctoring. To find the nearest test centre, use the official HSK test centre locator at the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation website (clecss.org) or through Hanban’s official portal.
Step 1: Create a Candidate Account
Register for a candidate account on the official HSK registration platform (cjk.neea.edu.cn for mainland China, or through your country’s designated HSK portal — links vary by country). Provide your full legal name as it appears on your passport, your date of birth, nationality, email address, and phone number. Ensure all details exactly match your identification — discrepancies at the test centre cause entry refusals.
Step 2: Select Your Exam Level and Test Centre
Log in to the registration system and browse available exam sessions for your target level (HSK 1 through HSK 6 or the new HSK 1–9 under HSK 3.0). Select your preferred test centre and session date. Registration typically opens 6 to 10 weeks before the exam and closes 2 to 4 weeks before. Check registration deadlines carefully — popular test centres fill quickly, particularly for HSK 4 and HSK 5.
Step 3: Pay the Examination Fee
HSK fees vary by country and level. Typically, HSK 1–2 costs approximately 20 to 30 USD, HSK 3–4 approximately 40 to 60 USD, and HSK 5–6 approximately 60 to 90 USD. Payment methods vary by country and registration system — common options include bank transfer, credit card, and WeChat Pay (in China). Keep the payment confirmation for your records.
Step 4: Download Your Admission Ticket
Download and print your admission ticket from the registration platform approximately 2 weeks before your exam. The ticket shows your candidate number, exam level, test centre address, exam time, and room assignment. Bring both your admission ticket and the same identification document you registered with. Without both, entry to the exam will be refused.
On Exam Day
Arrive at the test centre at least 30 minutes before the exam start time. Bring HB pencils (for paper-based exams) or ensure you are familiar with the computer interface (for CBT). Phones must be turned off and stored outside the exam room. Listen carefully to the proctor’s instructions regarding the answer sheet format — particularly whether answers should be circled or filled.
