Goethe A2 Sprechen is a 15-minute, paired speaking exam worth 25 of the 100 total marks, and it is assessed live by two examiners. You sit it alongside another candidate and complete three tasks: asking and answering personal questions using word cards, talking about yourself and your daily life, and planning something together with your partner.
At A2 level, examiners are checking whether you can communicate simple, familiar information with reasonable accuracy, not whether you can speak at length. This guide walks through all three tasks with model language and a preparation strategy so you know exactly what to practise before exam day.

Task 2 – Information Exchange on Everyday Topics (5–6 Minutes)
You receive a card with 4–5 topics or pictures. For each topic, you ask your partner a question and answer your partner’s question. Topics at A2 are slightly more varied than A1 and may include: shopping, transport, accommodation, food habits, leisure activities, technology, or health.

Task 3 – Joint Planning Task (4–5 Minutes)
You and your partner are given a scenario and must plan something together: organising a birthday party, deciding on a weekend trip, planning a shared meal, or arranging a surprise for a friend. Each of you has a card with different ideas or conditions, and you must negotiate and reach a joint decision. This task tests interactive language and the ability to make suggestions, agree, and compromise.
| Communication Function | A2 German Phrases |
| Making a suggestion | Wie ware es, wenn wir…? / Wir konnten… / Was haltst du davon, wenn…? |
| Agreeing | Ja, das ist eine gute Idee. / Das klingt gut. / Einverstanden. / Okay, machen wir das. |
| Disagreeing politely | Hmm, ich bin nicht sicher… / Das ist vielleicht etwas teuer. / Ich wurde lieber… |
| Asking for an opinion | Was denkst du? / Wie findest du das? / Hast du eine andere Idee? |
| Reaching a decision | Also, wir machen… / Gut, dann… / Wir sind uns einig: wir… |
Goethe A2 speaking is predictable — all three tasks draw on the same core vocabulary and functions every time. Prepare by practising each task type repeatedly: give your self-introduction out loud until you can do it fluently in under 2 minutes; practise the question-and-answer exchange on each of the 5 topic areas; role-play joint planning scenarios with a study partner or in front of a mirror. languagetest.in provides Goethe A2 speaking mock task cards for all three task types to support structured oral practice and build exam confidence.

Yes, you can practise the question and self-presentation tasks alone by recording yourself, though the joint planning task benefits from rehearsing negotiation phrases with a study partner or tutor.
