Celpe-Bras Exam Format Explained: Written Part, Oral Part and Bands

The Celpe-Bras exam format is unlike most language tests: it is task-based and integrated, with no isolated grammar or multiple-choice sections. Understanding it is the first step to a strong result.

The two parts

  • Parte Escrita – four writing tasks based on audio, video and text prompts, each with a defined purpose and audience.
  • Parte Oral – a roughly 20-minute interview built around short prompts.

How it is graded

There is one exam for all candidates. Your combined written and oral performance places you on a proficiency band — Intermediário, Intermediário Superior, Avançado or Avançado Superior. Candidates below the threshold do not receive a certificate.

Because everything is assessed through real communication, the best preparation is producing real texts and speech. See the format in action with our Celpe-Bras mock tests, or browse plans.
