Goethe A2 Sprechen (Speaking): Format, Tasks, and How to Pass

The Sprechen (Speaking) module of the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 is worth 25 points and takes approximately 15 minutes in a pair format with two examiners. There are three tasks: a short self-introduction, a question-and-answer exchange on everyday topics, and a joint planning task. At A2, you are expected to communicate simple information about familiar everyday topics with reasonable accuracy — you do not need to speak at length, but you must show that you can hold a basic conversation in German. This guide covers all three tasks with model language and strategies.

Goethe A2 speaking is predictable — all three tasks draw on the same core vocabulary and functions every time. Prepare by practising each task type repeatedly: give your self-introduction out loud until you can do it fluently in under 2 minutes; practise the question-and-answer exchange on each of the 5 topic areas; role-play joint planning scenarios with a study partner or in front of a mirror. languagetest.in provides Goethe A2 speaking mock task cards for all three task types to support structured oral practice and build exam confidence.
