The Sprechen (Speaking) module of the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 is worth 25 points and takes approximately 15 minutes in a pair format with two examiners. There are three tasks: a short self-introduction, a question-and-answer exchange on everyday topics, and a joint planning task. At A2, you are expected to communicate simple information about familiar everyday topics with reasonable accuracy — you do not need to speak at length, but you must show that you can hold a basic conversation in German. This guide covers all three tasks with model language and strategies.

Task 1 – Self-Introduction and Partner Questions (4–5 Minutes)

After your introduction, you ask your partner one question about their introduction and answer one question from your partner.

Task 2 – Information Exchange on Everyday Topics (5–6 Minutes)
You receive a card with 4–5 topics or pictures. For each topic, you ask your partner a question and answer your partner’s question. Topics at A2 are slightly more varied than A1 and may include: shopping, transport, accommodation, food habits, leisure activities, technology, or health.
| Topic | Question to Ask | Answer Model |
| Shopping | Wo kaufst du am liebsten ein? / Gehst du lieber online oder im Geschaft einkaufen? | Ich kaufe meistens online ein, weil es bequemer ist. Aber fur Lebensmittel gehe ich in den Supermarkt. |

Task 3 – Joint Planning Task (4–5 Minutes)
You and your partner are given a scenario and must plan something together: organising a birthday party, deciding on a weekend trip, planning a shared meal, or arranging a surprise for a friend. Each of you has a card with different ideas or conditions, and you must negotiate and reach a joint decision. This task tests interactive language and the ability to make suggestions, agree, and compromise.
| Communication Function | A2 German Phrases |
| Making a suggestion | Wie ware es, wenn wir…? / Wir konnten… / Was haltst du davon, wenn…? |
| Agreeing | Ja, das ist eine gute Idee. / Das klingt gut. / Einverstanden. / Okay, machen wir das. |
| Disagreeing politely | Hmm, ich bin nicht sicher… / Das ist vielleicht etwas teuer. / Ich wurde lieber… |
| Asking for an opinion | Was denkst du? / Wie findest du das? / Hast du eine andere Idee? |
| Reaching a decision | Also, wir machen… / Gut, dann… / Wir sind uns einig: wir… |
Goethe A2 speaking is predictable — all three tasks draw on the same core vocabulary and functions every time. Prepare by practising each task type repeatedly: give your self-introduction out loud until you can do it fluently in under 2 minutes; practise the question-and-answer exchange on each of the 5 topic areas; role-play joint planning scenarios with a study partner or in front of a mirror. languagetest.in provides Goethe A2 speaking mock task cards for all three task types to support structured oral practice and build exam confidence.
